Laura Petracek, Ph.D., LCSW
, is a certified dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) practitioner who, as a recovering addict herself, uses her own experience with recovery and treatment to help others. Dr. Petracek received her Master of Social Work from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies.

 

Dr. Petracek has worked in the field of psychotherapy for more than 30 years. She is an LGBTQ+ member and ally. As a psychologist and author, she is committed to providing the highest quality psychotherapy services that honor where individuals are on their personal growth journeys. Dr. Petracek is author of The DBT Workbook for Alcohol and Drug Addiction and The Anger Workbook for Women.



Dr. Petracek will be selling copies of her book, “DBT Workbook for Alcohol and Drug Addiction” on the day of the event.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This workshop explores Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and integration of Twelve Steps in addiction treatment. Strategies for emotional management, relapse prevention, mindfulness, and relationship-building to support sobriety and emotional regulation will be discussed and reviewed. Participants will gain practical skills for a holistic approach to addiction recovery.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe three skills-based strategies for managing intense emotions, curbing self-destructive behaviors, and promoting relapse prevention in individuals struggling with addiction.
  • Identify two principles and applications of DBT in the treatment of alcohol and drug addiction.
  • Explain one important trait of relationships in recovery.
  • List two skills to help clients in building and maintaining relationships that support sobriety and emotional regulation.

COURSE LEVEL

Intermediate: This workshop is useful for psychologists with limited experience in the field.
